Sightseeing Denpasar #1

Visiting Bali for me always be so exciting. With the paradise of tourism objects, still there are some places that I haven't been before. Talk about Bali always reminds us to the beautiful beaches in the south, marvelous landscape of Kintamani, Ubud, or Uluwatu, and the strong cultural touch in every corner of the city. But now, I'm gonna take you to Denpasar, the capital city of Bali province, which is basically not a type of tourist place. Most of life in Denpasar consists of people working, schooling, trading, etc.
How about the cultural and historical side? Do people forget that? Well, if you are a kind of person who loves to learn and sightseeing those kind of things, I suggest you to visit the Monumen Perjuangan Rakyat Bali which are located in Renon, Denpasar, Bali.

This monument also known as Bajra Sandhi Monument. To enter the monument we just have to pay IDR 5000 for domestic tourist and IDR 10.000 for foreign tourist. That's so cheap for us to enjoy this Balinese towering building with all of the photos, dioramas, plus all of the cultural touches inside.

The first idea about this monument came from Dr. Ida Bagus Mantra in who was the governor of Bali Province in 1980. In 1981, there was a design competition for the monument, which was won by Ida Bagus Yadnya, a student of Udayana University who's majoring architecture. Later on, in 1988, the monument was start to be build, and finished for approximately 13 years. In 2001, the physical building of the monument was completed and a year later the dioramas done.

    1. This monument is indeed very interesting because the beautiful building is still well maintained and also clean.  In this place, there was a battle between the Balinese against the occupying forces in the independence era of Indonesia. The war was known as "Puputan War" which means all-out war. So, the monument is the symbol of  respect for the Balinese people's struggle.

  • We can also reach the top of the monument through the spiral stairs to see the view of Denpasar city form above. The view of green trees that extend surround the Puputan Renon square with the blowing wind from the window in the top of the museum would make our mind so relaxed after we take a walk to see the dioramas and photo collections in the monument. But one important thing that we have to know, women who have periods are not allowed to go to the top.
